POSTAL SERVICES IN PRIORAT

correuscorreusThe main post office can be found in Falset which opens Monday to Saturday from 10am to 2.30pm. Closed on public holidays and Sundays. It is on Baix Street near Quartera Square on the ground floor of an old building. It is not immediately obvious and so visitors should look for the yellow "Correos" sign. Sometimes you may see "Correus" this is the Catalan word and "Correos" is the Spanish word for the Post Office. All post boxes are yellow and there is usually one in every village. Sometimes it is just a small box on the wall of someone's house. If you need to ask for one, it is known as a "Bùstia" in Catalan or a "Buzón" in Spanish.
Stamps can be bought in the Post Office, but also in tobacconists (Tabac) shops. The postal service is a bit erratic and letters can take between two days and a week within Europe and a little longer to the States or other countries outside the European Union. If you need to register a letter, it is known as "certificada".
