CURRENCY

Spain is a member of the European Union monetary system, which introduced a single currency in the year 2000 for many member states. The single currency is called the EURO. There are coins of 1,2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and 1 and 2 Euros. There are 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 notes. Currency can be changed at banks and savings banks, and not usually in hotels and holiday accommodation in Priorat. Banks are generally open from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm and closed on Saturdays and Sundays all day. There are four banks in Falset, the capital of the region with their corresponding ATM or cash-machine. Gratallops also have a machine as too does Porrera, Cornudella and Marçà.

Amercian express cards are not normally accepted in restaurants and hotels in the Priorat. Europeans tend to prefer mastercards or Visacards. Traveller's cheques are not normally used either in the Priorat region.
