This one-storey building huddled between taller houses on a cobbled street in the centre of Falset is home to Mercè Pallejà. Mercè and her partner, Juli earned themselves a reputation in this region for using traditional recipes to create modern creative dishes. You could say that they were the pioneers in modern cuisine in Priorat when the area was known only for its tough rustic wines and heavy stews. Sadly Juli passed away in 2011 after years of fighting cancer and Mercè now heads up this very special little restaurant hidden down a side street of Priorat’s main town. This restaurant is small and everything is personalised with the customer in mind. Seats just 19 diners. Price per person: between 16 and 40 Euros..

PRIORAT CUISINE

Minerva Pi has just brought out a second edition of her popular "Priorat Cuisine" cookbook. Roser Vernet has re-edited the original version: "Priorat a taula" which was out of print. Available at various shops and the Priorat Tourist Office in Falset, but only in Catalan - sorry!
