HIKING IN THE PRIORAT AREA

The Priorat is a wonderful area for hiking. The scenery is spectacular and the paths are now well signed. The Natural Park of the Montsant Mountain Range have published a series of routes around each of the villages which belong to the park and are available at the Priorat Tourist Office in Falset or the Montsant Park headquarters in La Morera de Montsant for the price of 2 Euros in Catalan, Spanish, English and French. They have also published five routes to disover the flora of the park and are available for free at the tourist office and the park offices. Similarly the Llaberia Mountain Range Consortium is developing routes around the lower region of the Priorat which will be published soon.

VisitPriorat.com has prepared a few examples of relatively easy walks around different parts of the Priorat region and are featured here. If you decide to tackle harder walks, especially on the Montsant Mountain Range, please do take a detailed map and wear good footwear. The best time of year for exploring the Priorat mountains is Spring or Autumn as the colours of the vines are incredible. A word of advice: avoid walking in August and especially during the hot hours in the middle of the day. Use these hours for doing other activities. See our "Things to do" section of our Visitors' Guide for more details.

Montsant Mountain range

A great network of paths through the Priorat is being developed by the Priorat Tourist Board. These paths are based on historic ways which once connected one village to another before the roads were built. They take you through vineyards and beautiful scenery and some are over 200 years old..
