The Olive Grove Viewpoints of UlldemolinsRuta oli Ulldemolins

Olive grove viewpoints is the name given to one of the activities undertaken within the project of VINOLEUM – Mediterranean Values. The Consortium for the Development of the Priorat and the Agricultural Cooperative of Sant Jaume Apòstol of Ulldemolins and their members have designed an itinerary to highlight the different working methods of the olive tree: organic, conventional and integrated production farming. This itinerary is aimed at people who wish to know more about the olive farming process. Throughout the itinerary, the visitor is allowed access to olive groves which are indicated with signs and information boards. These indicators show how each method of farming is different from the other.

The signed olive groves can be found in the area known as “La Garriga” which is close to the Natural Park of Montsant and the Prades Mountain Range. The landscape is abrupt and very dry due to lack of water during most part of the year. It is also characterised by the centenary olive trees which have adapted to this harsh climate of extreme heat in the summer.

This route is signed from in front ot Ulldemolins cooperative. The boards are in Catalan, but there is a leaflet to accompany them which has been translated into Spanish and English. Available at the Priorat Tourist Office in Falset and also at the Ulldemolins cooperative which has a very good information centre and shop.
